Task 1 - Ambient & Directional Sound Recording Production

1.

Use portable audio filed recorders to record 6 location ambient sounds and 6 focused directional sounds in a range of environments. Recorded sounds must feature altered file names that are specific to the location they were recorded.

You must also produce photographic evidence that clearly shows each person in your group using the portable sound recorders on location to capture ambient and directional sounds. These pictures can be taken using your mobile phone.

Recorded sounds must firstly be uploaded to your SoundCloud account profile page and embedded into a blog post with accompanying photographic evidence using the title Ambient & Directional Sound Recording Production.

The first task was to record and playback twelve sounds recorded using the mic and recorder, six of which had to be Ambient sounds, and the other six directional, for this reason we had to alternate between mono and mp3.

Once we collected the required ammount of audio our job was to Rename them using our first and last initial and the file type of which it was recorded followed by the noise itself.

After we renamed all the files and put them in the chosen folder we needed to edit the audio so that the name couldn't be heard and the audio was normalised, this was done by double clicking a specific sound, tapping the Normalise button and hitting apply then ok.

The only thing left to do for the first part was to upload the files to soundcloud with the required tag.

The second part of task one was to bring in the collected,  edited ambient and directional sounds into reaper once more and play around with the pitch  and playback rate of the ambient and directional audio.

For this process i had to leave one copy of the original edit untouched and repeat the sound again but in a different pitch or at different speeds, this was required for all 12 sounds, bringing up a total of 24 pitch shift and time stretched files as well as the remainding 12 original sounds.

The final part of the first task was to use what knowledge we have gained through using the reaper software and create an atmosphere using audio which could be manipulated to sound like that of which suited our vision.

I did so by editing and piecing together sounds, an example of this shown in my multitrack audio would be the explosion followed by a white noise implying that the target fell victim to the explosion which affected his hearing.
To execute this i used the pitch shifting and time stretching options which i learned of in the previous times using the software to make the noise which resembled that of an aftermath explosion.

The other tools i used for this task were the volume and pan options which created the effect of the hitman walking closer to his target to deliver the final blow.

The idea behind my Multitrack audio was a building being destroyed causing people to scream and tremmor with fear followed by an assassin who was hired to kill a certain man, upon the structure exploding the hitmans target was injured which gave the hitman the upperhand leading to the targets imediate demise.
